Quilt Gallery

This page is under construction. The intent is to show my quilts, tell about them and where they were published. In my time, I authored or co-authored 30 quilt pattern books. The first was Small Quilts in 1981. It was the first book published by That Patchwork Place which later became Martingale.

STAR SPANGLED BANNER by Mrs. Alexander Cramndin, 1840, New England, 86” x 95”.

The Star Spangled Banner feathered star variation owes its name to this quilt. At the Henry Ford Museum in Dearborn , Michigan, where it was exhibited in 1955, Florence Peto described it in her checklist as follows:

STAR SPANGLED BANNER. Four quilted and stuffed eagles under each four lines in quilting stitchery of the national anthem. Followed by “F.C. Key.” Notice how the quilt has been made to look like a flag … brown staff along one edge and fringe at the opposite end.

Along the bottom edge of the quilt, stitched out in quilting, is the inscription “Alexander Cramndin Jr. Made by his mother. 1840.” It was probably a freedom quilt made for his 21st birthday.
